Facebook Adds New Fan Page Timeline Features

If own or manage a Facebook Fan page like me, I’m sure there are days when you are just sitting there at the right time to click the post button to ensure everyone can see your great news. Perhaps you are the admin of a page and some junior from your agency needs to be added as an admin to keep an ‘eye’ on things. Seriously, do you really wanna give the power to destroy your brand in one fatal post.

If either of those two things keep you awake at night (I really hope they don’t) then you will be happy to know Facebook have release varying admin permission for pages as well as page post scheduling.

The goal of this release is to provide page owners with more features control or your page and more importunely your brand.

New Admin Permissions

There are five new permissions levels and I for one welcome this feature. The new permission levels are manager, content creator, moderator, advertiser and insights analyst. The manager replaces admin and everyone who are currently admins will have this designation so schedule a meeting immediately to decide who gets what permission level.

Here’s a snapshot of what each new permission level can and cannot do.

To change the permission level, simply go to the Edit Page > Manage Admins

Facebook Page Post Scheduling

The other new feature to be rolled out is the page post scheduler. This will allow page owners to schedule posts for up to 6 months in advance as frequently as every 15 minutes.

Sidenote: to the business or person who have the next 6 months of Facebook page post planned,  I applaud you. I also want to meet you and buy you a beer.

Personally, I think 15 minutes is too short and I’m sure it will be no time before we see some page owners abuse this feature. After all, who has something to post only 15 minutes apart. If that’s a practice you are meaning to employ, I recommend doing these type of updates on Twitter as to not spam your fans who are more than likely not that interested. That being said, let’s wait and see what happens.

To schedule a post:

To all of the fan page owners out there who are currently using Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, and/or Buffer App among others to post schedule your social media updates, I will encourage you to think about entire social media analytics before abandoning these schedulers for Facebook’s new scheduler.

While I have yet to see this feature in action, I curious to see if we as page owners will have the ability to schedule events in the past? Food for thought.

As always I welcome any feedback you may have, so please comment or contact me via twitter to keep the discussion flowing.
